Lovlina Borgohain reaches boxing quarter-final, one win away from medal

Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain stormed into the quarter-finals of the women’s 75kg boxing event at the Paris 2024 Olympics after a commanding victory over Norwegian fighter Sunniva Hofstad.

Borgohain, who previously won bronze in the 69kg category at Tokyo 2020, made a strong debut in the 75kg division as the eighth seed. Hofstad, at 20, was making her Summer Games debut and started with an aggressive approach.

However, the 27-year-old Borgohain showcased exceptional defensive skills, adeptly deflecting Hofstad’s punches and responding with strategic counterattacks. Her composed demeanor and precise technique were evident throughout the match.

Despite Hofstad intensifying her efforts in the third round, Borgohain’s experience and accuracy secured her a decisive victory. As Borgohain left the ring with a confident smile, it was clear that her performance in this new weight class is setting her up for further success.

Stay tuned for more updates.
