LS polls: EC releases final voter turnout data; 66.14% in Phase 1, 66.71% in Phase 2

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday released the final voting statistics for the initial two phases of the Lok Sabha election, showing a turnout of over 65 per cent in both phases.

According to the poll body, in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, the voter turnout was recorded at 66.14 per cent and 66.71 per cent in the second phase. Voting for the first phase was held on April 19 and the second phase on April 26.

Breaking down the demographics, the ECI reported a male turnout of 66.22 per cent and a female turnout of 66.07 per cent in the first phase, with the third-gender community contributing 31.32 per cent. 

For the second phase, the male turnout stood at 66.99 per cent, the female turnout at 66.42 per cent, and the third-gender representation at 23.86 per cent.

Out of the total 543 Lok Sabha constituencies, 102 were contested on April 19, followed by 88 on April 26. Additionally, voting is scheduled for May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1. 

The final phase of the election will be followed by the counting of votes and the announcement of results on June 4.
