Maha Kumbh 2025: Fire fighting robots, ATVs -State fire department uses tech to ensure fire safety at Mela

Preparations for the Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj are underway as the grand spiritual gathering, held every 12 years, approaches. Spanning from January 13 to February 26, this year’s event is expected to draw millions of devotees to the Triveni Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers.

The Uttar Pradesh administration is leveraging advanced technology and enhanced safety measures to ensure a smooth and secure experience for attendees. Fire safety remains a top priority, with the state fire department deploying 365 vehicles, including Quick Response Vehicles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), firefighting robots, and fire mist bikes. Firefighting boats, capable of using river water to extinguish blazes on houseboats and platoon bridges, will also be operational within a week.

ADG Fire Padmaja Chauhan emphasized the importance of public awareness, saying, “Officials will conduct mock drills and educate people on handling small fire incidents to prevent panic.” New fire stations have been established, and personnel are undergoing rigorous training to handle emergencies efficiently.

In addition to safety, the North Central Railway division has launched a digital initiative to streamline ticketing during the event. Railway staff wearing green jackets with QR codes will assist pilgrims at key locations, enabling them to download the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) app. This app allows users to book unreserved tickets digitally, bypassing long queues.

The initiative aligns with the Digital India mission, offering pilgrims a seamless experience through modern technology. By integrating digital payment options, the system reduces crowding and enhances convenience for travelers.

The main bathing rituals, known as the Shahi Snan (royal baths), will take place on January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami).
