Maha Kumbh 2025 sees record-breaking footfall of 45 crore devotees

The Maha Kumbh 2025 has set a new milestone as one of the largest religious gatherings in history, with over 450 million (45 crore) devotees attending the sacred event as of February 11. The state government had anticipated reaching this number by the end of 45 days, but the target was achieved within just one month, with 15 days still remaining for the Kumbh to conclude. This year’s Kumbh Mela has showcased a remarkable blend of spirituality, grand rituals, and modern technological innovations, setting new standards for crowd management, sanitation, and digital facilitation.

With the footfall crossing 45 crore, ensuring smooth crowd management has been a key priority. The upcoming Amrit Snan on February 12, coinciding with Magh Purnima, holds deep religious significance. To manage the influx of pilgrims, the state government has declared the Mela area a ‘no vehicle zone’ from Tuesday, allowing only essential services for smooth operations.

A multi-tier security system powered by AI-enabled CCTV cameras, drones, and real-time analytics has been implemented to ensure the safety of devotees. The administration also introduced a digital token system to streamline access to the bathing ghats, minimizing overcrowding. Special provisions have been made for senior citizens and differently-abled individuals, ensuring an inclusive spiritual experience.

President Droupadi Murmu participated in the religious rituals on Monday, taking a holy dip at Triveni Sangam. Several prominent leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, have also attended the event and performed sacred rituals. The presence of saints, Bollywood celebrities, and Indian sports icons further elevated the sanctity and grandeur of the Maha Kumbh.

The Kalpavas ritual, which emphasizes fasting and spiritual discipline, plays a vital role during the Kumbh. This year, over 10 lakh devotees observed Kalpavas at Triveni Sangam, culminating on Magh Purnima with a final holy dip and puja, marking the conclusion of this sacred practice.

On the healthcare front, over 7 lakh pilgrims have received medical assistance through a network of hospitals, including allopathic and AYUSH facilities. Renowned specialists from AIIMS Delhi, IMS BHU, and international experts have ensured top-notch medical care for the devotees. Services such as Panchakarma, yoga therapy, and awareness campaigns have contributed to the overall well-being of attendees.

Efforts to make Maha Kumbh 2025 the cleanest Kumbh Mela ever have been bolstered by a robust waste management system. 22,000 sanitation workers are maintaining cleanliness across the venue, while eco-friendly practices like plastic bans and biodegradable cutlery are being strictly enforced. Thousands of bio-toilets and automated garbage disposal units have also been installed.

Cultural programs, including classical dance performances, folk music, and spiritual discourses, are captivating audiences, showcasing India’s rich traditions. Artisans and craftsmen have set up stalls, turning the Mela into a vibrant cultural hub. Literary gatherings are also taking place, where scholars discuss ancient scriptures and the relevance of Sanatan Dharma in today’s world.
