Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced Rs 5 lakh in financial assistance for the families of those who lost their lives in the train accident in Jalgaon district. The state government will also cover all medical expenses for the injured.
At least 11 people lost their lives, and six others sustained injuries after the Karnataka Express hit passengers near Jalgaon. The passengers were from the Pushpak Express and had stepped off the train due to a suspected fire. While they were on the adjacent track, the Karnataka Express passed through and struck them.
The Chief Minister shared a video on his official X account, stating, “The state government will provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those who died in the accident, and we will cover the medical expenses of the injured. I pray for the speedy recovery of those hurt.”
Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of the Information & Publicity Department of the Railway Board, explained that some passengers had pulled the alarm chain on the Pushpak Express and deboarded. They were either standing on or attempting to cross the adjacent track when the Karnataka Express approached and hit them.
“Several people had boarded the Pushpak Express from Bhusawal. One passenger pulled the alarm chain, and others deboarded the train. While on the tracks, they were hit by the Karnataka Express,” Kumar told reporters.
Nashik Divisional Commissioner Praveen Gedam confirmed that ambulances and officials were at the site to assist. He stated that the Additional Superintendent of Police, Superintendent of Police, and the District Collector were coordinating efforts with railway officials to manage the situation.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his condolences and confirmed communication with Chief Minister Fadnavis regarding the incident. “The railway accident in Jalgaon is deeply saddening. I spoke with the Chief Minister, and the local administration is providing all necessary support to the injured. My condolences to the families of the deceased, and I pray for the recovery of the injured,” Shah said in a post on his X account.
