Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi highlights India’s recent achievements in sports

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that India is making rapid progress in the world of sports, noting several recent achievements across multiple disciplines. Speaking during the 128th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, he said that the month had been “significant” for Indian sports.

PM Modi began by congratulating the Indian women’s team on winning the ICC Women’s World Cup. He also highlighted India’s best-ever performance at the Deaf Olympics in Tokyo, where the country secured 20 medals. In addition, India’s women’s team won the Kabaddi World Cup, while Indian boxers claimed 20 medals at the World Boxing Cup Finals.

He said that the women’s Blind Cricket World Cup victory was particularly noteworthy, as the team remained unbeaten throughout the tournament. PM Modi met the players recently and said that their determination and performance had inspired the entire country.

The Prime Minister also spoke about the growing popularity of endurance sports in India. He said that events such as marathons and cycling competitions, once limited to a small group, now see widespread participation. PM Modi said that over 1,500 endurance sports events are held across the country each month.

He referred to the Ironman Triathlon – held recently in Goa – as an example of rising interest in extreme fitness challenges. PM Modi also mentioned the growing participation in community fitness initiatives like “Fit India Sundays on Cycle.”
