Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on the nation to participate in the celebrations of the 150th birth anniversaries of two revered leaders, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Birsa Munda. Announcing this initiative on the 115th episode of his monthly radio address, Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi emphasized the importance of honoring the legacy of these great figures who championed unity and freedom for India.
In his address, PM Modi shared that the government has decided to mark the 150th birth anniversaries of both Sardar Patel, India’s first Home Minister, and freedom fighter Birsa Munda at a national level. “I urge every citizen to join in celebrating these anniversaries as part of a larger campaign to remember their contributions,” he said.
PM Modi highlighted the shared vision of unity between the two leaders, despite the different challenges they faced in their times. “India has faced many challenges throughout history,” he said. “Today, I would like to speak about two heroes who displayed remarkable courage and vision. Both Sardar Patel and Birsa Munda stood for the unity of our country.”
The Prime Minister also recounted his visit to Ulihatu village in Jharkhand, the birthplace of Birsa Munda, describing it as one of the most memorable moments of his life. “On November 15 last year, I visited Ulihatu, the birthplace of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. It was a special moment to honor such a significant figure in our history,” he shared.
The celebrations are set to commence with Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary on October 31, followed by Birsa Munda’s on November 15. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai were among those who joined the Prime Minister’s call, tuning into Mann Ki Baat in their respective regions to support the message.
