May this day deepen our resolve to preserve harmony, brotherhood: PM Modi on ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’

On ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pays a profound tribute to those who suffered during the Partition, salutes their courage and remembers their invaluable contributions to nation-building. He calls upon citizens to work collectively towards building a ‘Viksit Bharat’ with a resolve to preserve harmony and brotherhood in the nation.

“Today we mark #PartitionHorrorsRemembranceDay. We recall the courage of all those who were impacted by Partition. It was a moment in history that tore apart several lives…families were uprooted, loved ones were lost and immense suffering was endured,” read PM’s post on X.

Recalling the courage of people who rebuilt their lives despite immense loss and displacement, he further said in his post: “At the same time, overcoming this, people rebuilt their lives from nothing, turned adversity into achievement and contributed immensely to our nation’s progress. Their life journeys remind us of the strength of the human spirit”.

“May this day deepen our resolve to preserve harmony and brotherhood in our nation and collectively work towards building a Viksit Bharat”, he added.

He emphasized further strengthening the national spirit of goodwill and unity.

“On Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, heartfelt salutations to all those compatriots who, emerging from that horrific era, made invaluable contributions to the nation’s progress. With their courage and strength, they demonstrated how resolutions are fulfilled even in adverse circumstances. Let us further strengthen the national spirit of goodwill and unity…,” said PM in another post on X.

A video shared along with the post said, “It is through hard work, enterprise and dedicated effort that diverse arts, science, technological skills, craftsmanship and innovations flourish, paving the way for success. Therefore, one should not remain dependent on fate; rather, one should move steadily towards one’s goals with courage, diligence and persistent effort, for it is human endeavor that shapes destiny.”

Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is observed on August 14 to remember the suffering, displacement and loss of lives associated with the Partition of India in 1947. Partition triggered one of the largest migrations in human history, affecting tens of millions of people, with millions of families forced to leave their ancestral homes and rebuild their lives as refugees.
