A Missile struck the premises of Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant on Tuesday evening, the second such incident in just over a week, amid escalating regional hostilities.
Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization reported the hit occurred around 9:08 p.m. local time. According to officials, there was no damage to the nuclear reactor itself, no injuries to staff, and the plant continues to operate normally with radiation levels stable. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed it was informed by Iranian authorities of the latest strike. This follows a similar projectile strike on March 17 that also caused no material damage or casualties. In the earlier incident, a structure about 350 meters from the reactor was reportedly destroyed, heightening concerns over proximity to the operational power unit. IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi reiterated his call for “maximum restraint” to prevent nuclear safety risks during the conflict. “Any attack at or near nuclear power plants violates the seven indispensable pillars” of nuclear safety and security, he warned, emphasizing that even near-misses could lead to severe radiological consequences.
Bushehr, Iran’s only operational nuclear power plant located on the Persian Gulf coast and built with Russian assistance, supplies electricity to the national grid. The repeated incidents have drawn international attention, with Russia condemning the strikes as extremely dangerous. The developments come as tensions in the region remain high, raising fears of accidental escalation involving nuclear facilities. The IAEA continues to monitor the situation closely and has urged all parties to avoid actions that could endanger nuclear safety.
