Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc has been cleared by Cricket Australia to resume competitive cricket and is set to join Delhi Capitals for the remainder of the Indian Premier League season.
Starc, recovering from elbow and shoulder injuries sustained during the Australian summer, is expected to link up with the franchise soon and gradually build up his bowling workload.
The left-arm pacer is likely to make his first appearance of the season in Delhi’s May 1 clash against Rajasthan Royals, having missed the initial phase of the tournament.
The injury followed a demanding period in which Starc played all five Tests in Australia’s 4-1 Ashes series win, earning player-of-the-series honours, before featuring for Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League.
Delhi Capitals, currently fifth in the standings with a 3-3 record, will look to bolster their pace attack with Starc’s return. South Africa’s Lungi Ngidi has led the bowling effort so far with seven wickets in six matches.
Starc had earlier addressed criticism over his delayed arrival in a social media post, citing injury concerns and reaffirming his commitment to the franchise.
Meanwhile, Australia captain Pat Cummins is also set to return to action for Sunrisers Hyderabad after recovering from a back stress issue and is expected to feature in their upcoming fixture against Rajasthan.
