MoS Pabitra Margherita to visit Papua New Guinea on September 16 for 50th Independence Anniversary

Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita will visit Papua New Guinea on September 16 to represent Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the commemorative events marking the country’s 50th anniversary of independence, the Ministry of External Affairs announced on Saturday.

During the visit, Margherita is expected to hold bilateral meetings with Papua New Guinea’s political leadership and engage with the Indian diaspora and business community in the country, according to an official statement.

The visit follows the historic 3rd Summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC), chaired by PM Modi in Port Moresby in May 2023, and aims to strengthen India’s engagement with Pacific Island Countries (PICs).
