Mumbai Indians coach Charlotte Edwards steps down, takes charge of England women

Mumbai Indians have officially parted ways with head coach Charlotte Edwards, who led the team to two Women’s Premier League (WPL) titles and will now take over as the head coach of the England women’s team.

Reflecting on her exit, a Mumbai Indians spokesperson said:
“Charlotte Edwards has been a leader for whom the entire #OneFamily has enormous admiration, appreciation, and respect. The incredible achievements she has driven the team toward include winning two titles in three years, inspiring the players to bring out their best, and furthering the MI legacy. We are grateful for everything she brought to the team and wish her all the very best for her new journey.”

A former England captain, Edwards represented her country in over 300 matches, winning two World Cups and five Ashes series during a distinguished 20-year career. With 10,273 runs across 309 international appearances, including 13 centuries, she remains one of the most decorated batters in women’s cricket history.

Following England’s underwhelming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign and a 16-0 Ashes whitewash by Australia, Edwards was appointed to succeed Jon Lewis as head coach. Since retiring from international cricket in 2017, she has found success as a coach in various leagues around the world, including stints with the Southern Vipers in England’s domestic circuit, Southern Brave in The Hundred, Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League, and Mumbai Indians in the WPL.

As Edwards embarks on this new chapter, the Mumbai Indians extended their best wishes:
“Mumbai Indians wish Charlotte Edwards all the very best in her new role with the England Women’s team. The #OneFamily will always cheer for one of the greats of the game.”
