Mumbai Indians set to face Gujarat Giants in WPL 2025 eliminator for a spot in the final

The Mumbai Indians will take on the Gujarat Giants in the high-stakes Eliminator of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 on Thursday at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. The winner will earn the coveted spot in the WPL 2025 final against the Delhi Capitals, which will take place on Saturday at the same venue.

Mumbai Indians finished second in the WPL 2025 standings with 10 points, securing five wins and suffering three losses during the league stage. However, they will be entering the Eliminator after an 11-run defeat to Royal Challengers Bangalore earlier this week. Nat Sciver-Brunt has been the standout performer for Mumbai Indians, amassing 416 runs, making her the highest run-scorer in WPL 2025 so far. Their bowling attack will be spearheaded by Amelia Kerr and Hayley Matthews, both of whom have claimed 14 wickets this season.

On the other hand, Gujarat Giants secured the third spot on the table with eight points, having won four and lost four of their matches. Notably, their last outing against Mumbai Indians ended in a nine-run loss. Ashleigh Gardner, their captain, has been the top batter for GG with 235 runs in eight matches, while Kashvee Gautam has been the most successful bowler, taking 10 wickets.

Mumbai Indians, the champions of the inaugural season of WPL, will be eyeing their second final appearance, while Gujarat Giants are striving for their first-ever spot in the grand finale. Despite Mumbai Indians’ dominance in head-to-head encounters, having won all six previous matches against GG, this is the first time the Giants have reached the WPL playoffs. A fierce contest is anticipated as both teams fight for a place in the final.
