Tesla CEO and DOGE Head Elon Musk has accused the U.S. bureaucracy of obstructing President Donald Trump’s executive orders, claiming that officials are “fighting against the will of the people.”
In a Fox News interview aired Tuesday, Musk criticized the slow implementation of Trump’s directives and asserted that his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is working to ensure the orders are enforced. “The president makes these executive orders, which are very sensible and good for the country, but then they don’t get implemented,” he said, alleging that bureaucratic resistance undermines democratic governance.
Musk, who openly declared his support for Trump, described himself as the president’s “tech-support.” “I’m here to provide the president with technology support. I’m a technologist, and I try to make technologies that improve the world and make life better,” he said.
Citing an example of bureaucratic obstruction, Musk pointed to the continued funding of luxury hotels for illegal immigrants, despite Trump issuing an executive order to halt taxpayer money for such expenses. “We went in there and said, ‘This is a violation of the presidential executive order. It needs to stop.’ One of the biggest functions of the DOGE team is making sure the president’s orders are actually carried out,” he added.
He further warned that unelected bureaucrats, by resisting Trump’s directives, are undermining democracy. “The president is the elected representative of the people. If the bureaucracy is fighting the will of the people and preventing the president from implementing what the people want, then we live in a bureaucracy, not a democracy,” Musk said.
Reflecting on his shifting political stance, Musk noted that he was once embraced by left-wing circles but now faces hostility for supporting Trump. “I used to be adored by the left. Not anymore… They call it ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome,’ and you don’t realize how real this is,” he said.
Musk also described intense reactions from those opposed to Trump, recalling an incident where merely mentioning the president’s name sparked extreme responses. “It was like they got shot with a dart in the jugular containing methamphetamine and rabies. They become completely irrational,” he said.
Since endorsing Trump, Musk claimed he has faced hostility. “I’m getting dirty looks from everyone—if looks could kill, I’d be dead several times over,” he added.
