Mutual fund industry AUM rises 13.8% over year; equity funds see strong July inflows

The Indian mutual fund industry continued to witness strong growth in July, with assets under management rising steadily amid sustained investor participation across asset classes.

According to a report by GEPL Capital, the mutual fund industry’s overall assets grew by around 4.30 per cent in July compared with the previous month, while mutual fund AUM increased 13.80 per cent over the past year.

Corporates accounted for the largest share of mutual fund assets at around 37.17 per cent, followed by High Net-Worth Individuals (HNIs) at 33.83 per cent.

Retail investors accounted for nearly 27 per cent of total assets, while banks and financial institutions held around 1.92 per cent. Foreign Portfolio Investors and Foreign Institutional Investors accounted for about 0.07 per cent.

Equity and balanced funds together constituted the largest asset class, accounting for 61.06 per cent of total mutual fund assets. Exchange-Traded Funds and Fund of Funds accounted for 14.01 per cent, while liquid and money market funds represented 13.37 per cent.

Debt funds, excluding liquid and money market schemes, accounted for 11.57 per cent of total assets.

The equity segment continued to attract strong investor interest, recording combined net inflows of Rs 24,697 crore during July.

Small-cap funds recorded the highest inflows among equity categories at Rs 7,768 crore.

Mid-cap funds followed with net inflows of Rs 6,192 crore, while flexi-cap funds attracted Rs 4,709 crore. Large and mid-cap funds recorded inflows of Rs 3,425 crore, followed by multi-cap funds at Rs 3,227 crore.
