The nation today observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, paying homage to the millions who lost their lives or were displaced during the Partition of India in 1947.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to the victims, recalling the pain, violence, and displacement endured during the division of the country. In a post on X, Shah wrote that the day serves to remember the suffering of those affected by Partition and to honour their memory. He stated that the Congress party’s decision to divide the nation had caused violence, exploitation, and atrocities, forcing millions from their homes. “The country will never forget this history and pain of the partition,” he added.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also paid homage, describing August 14, 1947, as a symbol of “deep pain and immense loss.” He said Partition was one of the most painful events in human civilisation, separating countless people from their loved ones and homeland. “This wound will always remind us how destructive the consequences of hatred and animosity can be,” he noted, adding that the day inspires unity, brotherhood, and compassion.
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal remembered the sacrifices of those who endured violence, displacement, and the loss of loved ones. He said Partition Horrors Remembrance Day would continue to pay tribute to the victims while making future generations aware of the suffering.
External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar described the Partition as having “far-reaching human and strategic consequences” and lauded the resilience of those who endured the tragedy. He stressed that there are lessons to be learned from this painful chapter in history.
BJP President and Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda called for national unity, remembering those who sacrificed their lives while enduring the agony of displacement. He said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the tradition of observing this day was an important step towards nation-building.
On August 14 every year, Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is observed to honour those who lost their lives and to remember the millions who were forced to leave their homes during the Partition of India in 1947.
