Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday underscored the crucial link between the nation’s progress and citizens’ well-being, unveiling five key pillars of India’s health policy aimed at delivering comprehensive healthcare for all.
Speaking at the launch of various health initiatives at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi, PM Modi said: “The government’s focus is on preventive healthcare, timely diagnosis, affordable treatment, expanding healthcare access to rural areas, and integrating technology into the healthcare sector.”
He emphasized that sustainable development is only achievable when citizens are in good health.
Announcing the expansion of health coverage to all senior citizens aged 70 and above under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), PM Modi said: ““Around 4 crore poor individuals have already benefited from the scheme. There was a time when people had to sell their homes, land, and jewelry to afford treatment. We launched Ayushman Bharat to ensure no one faces such helplessness again.”
The Ayushman Bharat Yojana, one of the world’s largest healthcare programs, provides up to Rs 5 lakh in medical coverage for the economically disadvantaged.
During the event, PM Modi inaugurated multiple health projects worth approximately Rs 12,850 crore at AIIA, marking the occasion of the 9th Ayurveda Day. He also extended festive greetings on Dhanteras and Dhanwantari Diwas.
“On Dhanteras, I extend warm wishes to everyone, especially our business community. This Diwali is not just a celebration; it’s historic. After 500 years, thousands of diyas will illuminate the Ram Temple in Ayodhya,” PM Modi said, referring to the symbolic significance of Lord Ram’s return to Ayodhya.
