NEET PG 2024 date by next week, says NBE President Abhijat Sheth

Days after the Union Health Ministry postponed the National Eligibility and Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2024, originally scheduled for June 23, the President of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), Abhijat Sheth, announced on Tuesday that the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and protocols will be reviewed promptly. The new examination date is expected to be announced next week.

Sheth’s statement followed a review meeting between NBEMS officials and the Union Health Ministry to assess the situation and consider the input received by the government prior to postponing the examination.

The postponement of the NEET-PG 2024 examination comes amid rising controversy regarding alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG exam held on May 5.

Regarding the review meeting between NBEMS and the Health Ministry, Sheth said, “The meeting focused on reviewing the processes for computer-based examinations and the inputs received by the government. Directions have also been given to the examination body and Tata Consultancy Services, a technical partner of NBEMS.”

Addressing the advisory issued against misleading social media messages and fraud warnings, Sheth stated, “This was for the protection of students. We published the SOPs before the examination to ensure clarity. Social media is vast and sometimes conveys incorrect information. We want students to stay informed and on the right path.”

“We are working closely to address even minor shortcomings”.

Previously, the Ministry of Education announced the formation of a high-level committee of experts to recommend reforms in the examination process, improvements in data security protocols, and the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA). The 7-member committee, led by former ISRO chairman K. Radhakrishnan, will submit its report to the ministry in the next two months.
