The estimated expenditure for repairing and reconstructing roads and bridges damaged in recent natural disasters in Nepal ranges from Rs 20 to Rs 25 billion. This assessment was made by the Ministry of Physical Infrastructures and Transport following inspections of the damage caused by floods and landslides.
Minister Devendra Dahal announced that the Home Ministry has been requested to assist in rescuing transport workers stranded in various locations due to the disaster. To ensure passenger safety, transport entrepreneurs, Nepal Police, and New Bus Park management have coordinated efforts, especially as advance ticket sales for the festive season began on September 28.
Preliminary observations indicated that the temporary operation of the damaged roads and bridges would incur costs of around Rs 3 billion. Over 800 locations along 34 highways experienced damage due to landslides. Efforts are underway to clear obstructions at 31 points across five major highways. Heavy equipment and a workforce have been mobilized to address the issues on 29 highways.
