Nepal’s Oli calls PM Modi, condemns terror attack in Pahalgam

Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday to strongly condemn the heinous terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district and offered condolences over the tragic loss of lives.

Oli described the attack in Pahalgam as “heinous” and held a detailed conversation with PM Modi regarding the incident.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), PM Modi also expressed his condolences over the death of a young Nepali national in the attack and reaffirmed India’s commitment to ensuring that the perpetrators of the brutal assault are brought to justice.

“India and Nepal stand together in the fight against terrorism,” the MEA said in a statement.

The two leaders had recently met on the sidelines of the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, where they held what Oli termed “extremely fruitful and positive” discussions.

Nepal is considered a key partner under India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, and this exchange continued the tradition of high-level engagement between the two nations. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to further strengthen the multifaceted bilateral relationship.

The brutal assault, which killed over a dozen tourists and left several others critically injured, occurred on Tuesday in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam. Heavily armed terrorists reportedly emerged from dense forested areas and opened indiscriminate fire on the tourists. The incident is being described as one of the most horrific attacks in the region in recent years.

Initial intelligence suggests that The Resistance Front (TRF), a Pakistan-based terror outfit and an offshoot of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack, though official confirmation is still awaited.

Security forces remain on high alert across Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the attack. Security has been tightened at vulnerable locations, and additional forces have been deployed throughout the Valley.
