The new Aadhaar App has witnessed strong public adoption, recording more than 21 million downloads within three months of its launch, according to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
The app has emerged as a convenient digital platform for Aadhaar-related services, allowing users to update details and verify identity seamlessly through their smartphones.
According to the government, more than 2.8 million users have updated their mobile numbers using the app, while nearly 6 lakh people have used it to update their addresses.
The Aadhaar App has been designed as a next-generation mobile application that enables Aadhaar number holders to securely carry, share and verify their identity digitally while maintaining privacy and consent control.
The ministry said the growing adoption reflects increasing public trust in digital governance platforms and highlights the app’s role in improving accessibility and ease of living.
The application offers features such as face authentication for proof of presence, biometric lock and unlock with a single click, authentication history tracking and QR-based editable contact cards that can be shared digitally in place of physical visiting cards.
The app also supports several practical use cases, including hotel check-ins through QR code-based offline verification, hospital admissions, visitor management systems, age verification, event entry and identity verification for gig workers and service providers.
The Aadhaar App is available on both Android and iOS platforms.
