A National Investigation Agency (NIA) team, led by a senior officer, is en route to the site of a terror attack in Gagangir, Ganderbal district, Jammu and Kashmir, where a doctor and six construction workers were killed after terrorists opened fire at a construction site on Sunday.

According to sources cited by ANI, a Superintendent of Police from the NIA’s regional branch in the Union Territory will lead the team, which is expected to arrive at the scene by noon.

The attack occurred at a tunnel construction site along the Srinagar-Leh national highway, where unidentified terrorists targeted labourers returning to their camp in Gund, Ganderbal.

The attackers, believed to be at least two individuals, opened fire indiscriminately. Two labourers were killed on the spot, while three others and a doctor succumbed to their injuries later. Five people remain hospitalized and are receiving treatment.

The incident, seen as a targeted attack, has raised concerns over security in the region. Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his outrage on X, calling the attack “a despicable act of cowardice” and promising that those responsible will face the “harshest response” from security forces. He extended condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also condemned the attack on X, describing it as a “dastardly and cowardly” assault on non-local labourers working on a critical infrastructure project.
