‘Not every inspiring sporting story ends with a trophy’: Bindra praises Lakshya Sen after All England final defeat

Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra praised India’s Lakshya Sen after the shuttler finished runner-up at the All England Open men’s singles final. Sen lost 21-15 22-20 to Lin Chun-Yi of Chinese Taipei on Sunday.

In a post on X, Bindra said: “Not every inspiring sporting story ends with a trophy . Over the last few days, Lakshya Sen has shown India what courage, resilience and belief truly look like.”

“His run to another All England final, through extraordinary wins and immense physical pain, has been about far more than the result,” he added.

Sen spent more than five hours on court in earlier rounds before reaching the final. He started slowly against Lin, who took control to win the opening game.

The Indian shuttler fought back in the second game and led 9-4 after winning six consecutive points. Lin recovered through a series of long rallies and converted his second match point to clinch the title.

Notably, Lin became the first men’s singles player from Chinese Taipei to win the tournament.
