NSA Ajit Doval engages with US counterpart on expanding India-US partnership

Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held a phone conversation with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on Thursday. The two leaders discussed regional security developments, emphasizing the need for continued efforts to strengthen stability across the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.

The dialogue highlights the deepening strategic partnership between India and the United States, underscored by shared democratic values and mutual interests, according to an official statement from the White House. Both Doval and Sullivan “welcomed progress in the bilateral partnership,” particularly through upcoming forums such as the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) Intersessional and the Indian Ocean Dialogue.

They also explored enhanced collaboration in key areas, including clean energy supply chains and defense cooperation, reflecting a shared commitment to deepen ties amidst global challenges. Over the years, India-US relations have evolved into a “global strategic partnership,” focusing on shared democratic principles and interests across various sectors.

In September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with President Joe Biden during the Quad Summit in Delaware, where they discussed ways to advance bilateral cooperation on global and regional issues, including the Indo-Pacific. PM Modi acknowledged President Biden’s contributions in advancing the India-US partnership, adding that recent high-level visits have infused greater dynamism into the relationship.

Today, the US-India partnership spans a broad range of sectors, such as trade, defense, education, science and technology, cybersecurity, civil nuclear energy, space, clean energy, environment, agriculture, and health.

Strong people-to-people interactions and bipartisan support further enrich this partnership, showcasing how both nations are navigating an increasingly complex global landscape together.
