Security Advisor Ajit Doval is scheduled to visit Russia next week to attend the BRICS NSA meeting in Moscow, as per sources. The meeting of BRICS and BRICS Plus High-Level Security Officials will take place in St. Petersburg from September 10-12.
Russia, which holds the BRICS chairmanship for 2024, will host the meeting. BRICS is an informal group consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, with Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia joining in 2023.
Doval’s visit follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent trips to Russia and Ukraine. During these visits, PM Modi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This marked PM Modi’s first visit to both countries since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022.
During his visit to Russia in July, PM Modi and President Putin discussed enhancing cooperation across various sectors, including trade, security, agriculture, technology, and innovation. PM Modi emphasized the need for peaceful resolutions and dialogue over conflict. He expressed deep concern over the humanitarian impact of the war, particularly on innocent children.
In his subsequent visit to Ukraine, PM Modi reiterated India’s stance on peace and dialogue as the only viable solutions to the conflict. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy acknowledged India’s potential role in influencing the situation, highlighting the significant impact India could have on the conflict and its resolution.
