Omar Abdullah predicts victory in J&K elections, says ‘We fought the good fight’

Amid growing speculation over possible government formations in Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Tuesday expressed optimism for a favorable outcome in the assembly elections.

“Here’s wishing all my colleagues and allies the very best of luck for today. We fought the good fight, and now, InshaAllah, the results will reflect that,” Omar said.

On Monday, Abdullah addressed rumors regarding the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) offering support to his party, calling for an end to speculation until the election results are revealed. His remarks came after his father, Farooq Abdullah, hinted that the National Conference-Congress alliance might seek support from the PDP, even if it isn’t necessary, stressing unity in moving forward.

“They haven’t extended support, they haven’t offered support, and we don’t know what the voters have decided yet. So I really wish we could put a lid on all this premature speculation for the next 24 hours,” Omar Abdullah stated in a post on X.

According to the Election Commission of India, the overall voter turnout for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections stood at 63.88%. The third and final phase, held on October 1, recorded a 69.69% turnout. Phases 1 and 2 saw polling rates of 61.38% and 57.31%, respectively.

These elections, the first in the region since the abrogation of Article 370, were held peacefully over three phases. The National Conference and Congress, under the INDIA alliance, contested jointly, while the PDP and BJP participated separately.

The elections also saw increased voter participation in historically low-turnout areas, including Pulwama, which recorded a 12.97% increase, Zainapora in Shopian, with a 9.52% rise, and Eidgah in Srinagar, where turnout rose by 9.16%. These shifts reflect growing public engagement in the democratic process. (ANI)
