ONGC moves toward an AI-driven digital era with CIPL

India’s biggest oil and gas company, ONGC, is starting a major project to modernize its technology. They have teamed up with a Noida-based tech company called CIPL in a deal worth ₹125 crore. This partnership will last for three years and focus on bringing Artificial Intelligence (AI) into ONGC’s daily operations.

Instead of just fixing old computers, this project is about a total digital makeover. The goal is to make ONGC’s massive computer networks faster, smarter, and much more secure. By using AI, the company wants to change the way it handles everything from data management to cybersecurity, ensuring its “digital heartbeat” stays strong and protected for the future.

Across 450 locations nationwide, the project will see the deployment of advanced artificial intelligence to oversee infrastructure maintenance and cybersecurity. By moving away from traditional reactive models, the new system will utilize predictive maintenance and intelligent automation. These tools are designed to anticipate technical issues before they occur and streamline complex operations, ensuring that the mission-critical systems supporting India’s oil and gas exploration remain resilient and reliable around the clock.

To bring this vision to life, a dedicated force of over 450 skilled IT professionals will be stationed at ONGC offices to provide constant monitoring and support. Their goal is to build a future-ready ecosystem that is as secure as it is efficient. By integrating cloud-first strategies and AI-powered governance, the collaboration aims to set a new standard for how large-scale government enterprises handle digital evolution in an increasingly complex cyber landscape.

This milestone bridges the long-standing legacy of ONGC, established in 1956, with the modern technical expertise of CIPL, which has been a key player in the IT sector since 2007. With a proven track record of managing infrastructure for other major entities like Indian Oil and the Airports Authority of India, CIPL is now tasked with redefining the digital backbone of the country’s leading energy producer, making it smarter and more fortified against the challenges of tomorrow.
