Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led Opposition, saying that it gave a “clean chit” to Pakistan over the Pahalgam terror attack and did not support India’s fight against terrorism.
Dismissing Congress’s claims of a foreign policy failure following Operation Sindoor, PM Modi asserted that no nation opposed India’s military strikes against Pakistan.
“Out of 193 countries, only three supported Pakistan—either through dialogue or other means. All other nations and organisations, including BRICS, backed India’s military strikes and its war on terror,” the Prime Minister told the House.
“We got the support of the people, the support of global powers, but it is unfortunate that our armed forces didn’t receive the support of the Congress party”, the PM added.
PM Modi said that Congress used the Pahalgam terror attack to try and corner the government politically, instead of standing with the nation during a moment of grief. “They tried to score political points over the loss of innocent lives. They lowered the morale of our armed forces and undermined their valour,” he said.
The Prime Minister emphasised the growing importance of information and narratives in modern warfare and cautioned against using technology to mislead the public and demoralise the armed forces. PM Modi said Congress was drawing its political agenda from outside the country. “Today, Congress is bereft of issues and is forced to draw its agenda from outside,” he said.
The PM also pointed out that while Congress had initially demanded proof of India’s surgical strikes, it later claimed that similar operations were carried out during its own tenure.
“It’s good they didn’t demand credit for Operation Sindoor as well—because such air strikes never happened before,” he said, taking a sharp dig at the Opposition.
PM Modi said the Congress tends to oppose the government even at the cost of national security, and noted the party’s long-standing scepticism toward the armed forces.
“There is a persistent negativity towards our armed forces. It’s an old Congress habit to find faults in their actions,” the Prime Minister said.
