P.V. Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, advanced to the quarterfinals of the India Open 2025 after a commanding win against Japan’s Manami Suizu. Sindhu, ranked World No. 14, won the second-round match 21-15, 21-13 in just 46 minutes at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall, Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.
Dominating right from the start, she took an 11-6 lead in the first game and capitalized on it, finishing the game 21-15. In the second game, Sindhu kept up her aggressive pace, quickly gaining an 11-2 lead and wrapping up the match 21-13.
This tournament marks Sindhu’s return to competitive play after her marriage, and she expressed satisfaction with her performance, particularly in handling long rallies. Sindhu’s next challenge will be Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, the Paris Olympics bronze medallist, in the quarterfinals.
In men’s singles, Kiran George also reached the quarterfinals after defeating World No. 38 Alex Lanier of France 22-20, 21-13 in a 46-minute match. George will now face China’s Weng Hongyang on Friday.
In women’s doubles, however, India’s Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa were knocked out by Japan’s Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto in a close 9-21, 21-23 match, becoming the fourth Indian doubles team to exit the tournament.
