In a recent session of the Pakistani Parliament, opposition leader Shibli Faraz commended the Indian electoral process, highlighting the successful execution of India’s extensive elections.

Faraz said the effective use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), the timely announcement of results, and the seamless transfer of power, all achieved without any allegations of fraud.

“I don’t want to quote the example of our enemy country, but recently elections concluded there, with more than 800 million people voting at thousands of polling stations. Did anyone say the polls were rigged?” said Faraz.

Shibli Faraz, a prominent member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has been an active figure in Pakistani politics for several years. He has served in various capacities within his party and has been a member of the Senate of Pakistan from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since 2015.

Faraz’s praise for India’s electoral process was intended to highlight a positive example of conducting smooth and transparent elections. India boasts a long-standing tradition of democracy supported by a robust institutional framework, including an independent judiciary and a free press. Political parties and candidates in India adhere to electoral laws, and there is a strong culture of respecting electoral outcomes.

In contrast, Pakistan’s political landscape has been characterized by periods of military rule and political instability, which have undermined the functioning of democratic institutions. Numerous elections in Pakistan have been tainted by allegations of fraud, rigging, and manipulation, resulting in disputes and protests.

Furthermore, civil society and the media in Pakistan face restrictions such as censorship and threats, which hinder their ability to effectively monitor elections. The enforcement of election-related laws is often inadequate, exacerbating these issues.
