Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday told the Lok Sabha that India has set new rules of engagement in counterterrorism, following the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.
Addressing the House during a debate on Operation Sindoor, PM Modi said the country had avenged the attack “in just 22 minutes,” executing a precise military operation on the night of May 6 and the morning of May 7.
“India will respond to attacks on its own terms. Nuclear threats will not deter us. And we will make no distinction between terrorists and those who harbour them,” the Prime Minister said.
Calling Operation Sindoor a strategic breakthrough, PM Modi said it was the first time India had struck targets previously untouched. He added that terrorist bases in Wahwalpur and Muridke were destroyed and several Pakistani airbases left incapacitated. “Pakistan thought nuclear blackmail would work. We proved them wrong,” he said.
The PM highlighted the role of indigenous technology in the operation, saying Indian-made drones played a critical role in identifying and neutralising terror infrastructure. “This is the era of technology-driven warfare, and Operation Sindoor is proof of India’s capabilities,” he said.
The Prime Minister also said the joint action by the Army, Air Force, and Navy had altered regional dynamics and that the world was beginning to view India as a nation capable of decisive and independent action. “Today, those who sponsor terror know there will be consequences. The fear has shifted,” the PM said.
