Paralympics: Armless archer Sheetal Devi falls just short of world record in Paris

Sheetal Devi made a sensational debut at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, shattering her personal best and setting a new world record in the women’s individual compound open ranking round on Thursday.

With a superb score of 703, Sheetal briefly held the world record. However, Turkey’s Oznur Cure Girdi ultimately claimed the new record with a score of 704, leaving Sheetal in the second place.

The 17-year-old from Jammu and Kashmir, who shoots with her legs due to being born without arms, has secured a bye in the round of 32, along with the other top-four archers from the ranking round.

She will now advance directly to the round of 16, where she will compete against the winner of the round of 32 match between Mariana Zuniga of Chile and Choi Na Mi of Korea, who finished 15th and 18th respectively.
