Paris Olympics: India qualify for quarter-finals in men’s team archery event

India’s men’s archery team has made a strong start at the Paris Olympics 2024, securing a direct qualification to the quarter-finals after finishing third in the Ranking Round on Thursday.

The team, consisting of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai, and Pravin Jadhav, accumulated 2013 points, placing them behind South Korea (2049 points) and France (2025 points), but ahead of China (1998 points). All four top-ranked teams have earned direct entry into the quarter-finals.

Dhiraj Bommadevara emerged as the standout performer for India. Despite a slow start that saw him drop to 36th place, Bommadevara mounted an impressive comeback in the second half of the competition. His precision was on full display as he hit nine bullseyes in the latter rounds, propelling him to a fifth-place finish with 681 points.

Veteran archer Tarundeep Rai also put in a solid performance, finishing 14th with 674 points. Rai started strong, scoring 337 points in the first half, but couldn’t maintain the same momentum in the second half.

Pravin Jadhav, the third member of the Indian team, faced some challenges during the competition. Despite a promising start with two bullseyes in the first four rounds, Jadhav struggled to maintain consistency and finished 39th.
