The Lok Sabha has been adjourned and will meet again at 11 a.m. June 25. The first session of the Lok Sabha began with various prominent leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, taking oaths as Members of Parliament.
The 18th Lok Sabha commenced its first session on June 24, marking the beginning of a new parliamentary term following the recent general elections. The opening day was primarily dedicated to the oath-taking ceremony for 280 newly-elected Members of Parliament.
In a significant development in the Upper House, BJP president and Union minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has been appointed as the new Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha. Nadda takes over this role from Union minister Piyush Goyal.
Nadda joins 11 other members of the Rajya Sabha who currently serve in the Union Council of Ministers. Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge is the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
On June 26, the Lok Sabha Speaker will be elected. On June 27, President Murmu is scheduled to address the joint sitting of both houses of Parliament.
Earlier, while addressing media outside the new Parliament building, PM Modi congratulated all the newly elected members and said that the new government will always strive to take everyone along and build consensus to serve the country.
