The Ministry of Panchayati Raj’s innovative digital campaign, “Phulera Ka Panchayati Raj”, has resonated strongly with audiences across the country. According to an official statement released by the Ministry on Monday, the third and final episode of the series, “Alhua Vikas”, has surpassed 6 million views on YouTube.
The episode was launched on April 24, coinciding with National Panchayati Raj Day, and continues to gain traction for its relatable storytelling and impactful message highlighting grassroots governance.
Part of a three-part sketch series, “Alhua Vikas” focuses on a vital pillar of grassroots governance—the financial self-reliance of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs). The short film, featuring a star-studded cast from the popular series “Panchayat,” including Neena Gupta, Faisal Malik, Chandan Roy, and Durgesh Kumar, urges citizens to contribute to local development by paying local taxes on time.
“Pay your taxes to make your Panchayat self-reliant” is the core message of the film, which highlights how timely contributions from residents enable rural local bodies to improve public services and invest in sustainable development.
The Ministry, in an official statement on Monday, said the initiative is part of a broader push to make the concept of Own Sources of Revenue (OSR) a household term across villages in India. By encouraging timely tax payments, the government aims to empower gram panchayats to independently finance development works without relying entirely on central or state assistance.
The release of “Alhua Vikas” coincided with National Panchayati Raj Day, during which Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented awards to panchayats excelling in OSR mobilization, reaffirming the government’s commitment to building financially self-sustaining rural governance systems.
