Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, has expressed concerns over the lack of engagement from the industry with the National Single Window System (NSWS) and the Industrial Land Bank initiatives, crucial platforms designed to streamline approval and licensing processes.
Goyal also launched the CII Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) and Regulatory Affairs portal, designed to offer insights into India’s business environment and serve as a platform for gathering and tracking suggestions for improvement.
The portal will allow users to monitor updates on key ease-of-doing-business initiatives from both the government and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). With a dedicated member dashboard, it ensures real-time tracking of progress and submissions, promoting transparency, accountability, and timely resolution of concerns.
Speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) national conference on ease of doing business, Goyal stressed the importance of industry feedback for improving these digital platforms. He warned that without sufficient participation and input, he would consider halting the initiative altogether.
“The National Single Window System that we have created needs input from all of you. Without your engagement, I am almost inclined to abort the idea. The choice is now with you. If you feel that you are not interested in it, I am spending a lot of money on it, and I have come to a stage where I am almost inclined to abort the entire idea,” Goyal said, urging industry leaders to use the platform and provide constructive feedback.
The NSWS, launched by Goyal on September 22, 2021, allows investors to apply for approvals from 27 Central Ministries/Departments and 19 States/UTs through a single portal. The system is designed as a one-stop solution for obtaining regulatory approvals and services related to investments.
Goyal reiterated his commitment to improving the ease of doing business in India and emphasized the necessity of collaboration between the government and the industry for the success of these initiatives.
The minister also discussed the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), which has seen rapid growth and is expected to surpass Rs 6 lakh crore in government procurements this year. Launched six to eight years ago, GeM has facilitated procurement worth approximately Rs 4 lakh crore in the last financial year, and its transformation is set to continue with the revamp of the platform by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
“TCS is now re-looking at GeM, aiming to make it easier, more contemporary, and more efficient for the purchase of goods and services,” Goyal said, highlighting the ongoing efforts to enhance the platform’s user-friendliness and technological capabilities.
