Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday hailed four years of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP), saying it has become a cornerstone in India’s journey towards a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.
Speaking on the occasion of the scheme’s four-year anniversary, Goyal said PM Gati Shakti, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 13, 2021, has reduced logistics costs and improved service delivery.
“Marking four years of PM Gati Shakti, a game-changing initiative by PM Modi, which has transformed India’s infrastructure planning through a ‘Whole-of-Government’ approach,” Goyal posted on X.
The initiative integrates ministries, states, UTs, and sectors on a single digital platform, bringing speed, synergy, and sustainability to project execution. Its impact is visible in faster project completion, lower logistics costs, and more efficient delivery of services across the country.
“Driving seamless connectivity and logistics efficiency, PM Gati Shakti stands as a cornerstone in our journey towards a Viksit Bharat,” the minister added.
Currently, 58 ministries and departments, along with all 36 states and UTs, are onboarded. Their data layers have been integrated, each provided with a geospatial planning portal.
The scheme has laid the foundation for multi-modal connectivity and accelerated economic growth, redefining how India plans and executes large-scale infrastructure projects.
According to the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), India’s logistics costs have dropped to 7.8–8.9 per cent of GDP, down from earlier estimates of 13–14 per cent. However, a report titled Gati Se Pragati notes that costs are still above global benchmarks of 6–8 per cent seen in developed economies.
India’s rank in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index improved from 44th to 38th in 2023, indicating positive momentum, though further progress is needed, the report added.
