PM-KISAN completes 19 successful instalments

PM Modi disburses over Rs 22,000 crore to 9.8 crore farmers under 19th PM-KISAN instalment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday released the 19th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme in Bhagalpur, Bihar.

The tranche, amounting to more than Rs.22,000 crore, will provide direct financial assistance to over 9.8 crore farmers nationwide, including 2.41 crore women farmers.

Launched in February 2019, the PM-KISAN scheme aims to support the financial needs of small and marginal farmers (SMFs) by providing Rs.6,000 annually in three installments.

The funds are transferred directly to beneficiaries’ Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ensuring transparency and eliminating middlemen.

This assistance enables farmers to purchase essential farming inputs and reduces their dependence on moneylenders. Since its inception, the government has disbursed over Rs.3.46 lakh crore across 18 instalments as of February 2025.

Previously, on October 5, 2024, PM Modi had released the 18th instalment of the scheme in Washim, Maharashtra, disbursing over Rs.20,000 crore to benefit more than 9.4 crore farmers.

The scheme’s farmer-centric digital infrastructure has been continuously improved to ensure that benefits reach all farmers efficiently. The PM-KISAN mobile app, launched on 24th February 2020, further streamlined the process by offering self-registration, e-KYC through face authentication, and benefit status tracking. An AI chatbot, Kisan-eMitra, introduced in 2023, provides instant assistance in local languages, enhancing the accessibility of the scheme.

Also, over 5 lakh Common Service Centres (CSCs) have been set up across the country to assist farmers with registrations and e-KYC. A robust grievance redressal system, along with efforts to extend e-KYC completion through India Post Payment Bank and state government officials, has ensured the scheme’s reach to every eligible farmer.

With continuous technological advancements and improved governance, the PM-KISAN scheme stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to supporting India’s farmers. It has not only helped with agricultural needs but has also contributed to broader expenses such as education and healthcare, solidifying its role in empowering rural communities across the country.
