PM Modi adorns Assam’s Gamosa at Yoga event in Srinagar, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expresses gratitude

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s gesture of wearing Assam’s traditional ‘Gamosa’ during the 10th International Day of Yoga celebrations in Srinagar has drawn appreciation from Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

The Prime Minister led the yoga event at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s capital, adorning the Gamosa, a symbol of Assamese culture that he has worn on numerous previous occasions.

Sonowal, the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, expressed his deep gratitude to PM Modi for this gesture. “On behalf of the people of Assam and the devotees of Krishnaguru Sevashram, I thank Modi ji for once again showing his love and affection for the Gamosa,” Sonowal said from Tinsukia, Assam, where he participated in local Yoga Day celebrations.

The Minister highlighted the spiritual significance of the Gamosa, associating it with the devotion of the Krishnaguru Sevashram followers.

Sonowal also praised the global adoption of yoga under PM Modi’s leadership, calling it “a big achievement for the people of India.” He emphasized yoga’s potential to promote both physical health and moral values in society, particularly among youth.

This year’s International Day of Yoga, themed “Yoga for Self and Society,” aims to showcase yoga’s impact on young minds and bodies while promoting global health and wellness. The event saw participation from thousands across India and worldwide, with Union Ministers and other leaders joining yoga sessions in various parts of the country.

Since 2015, PM Modi has led International Day of Yoga celebrations at iconic locations, ranging from Delhi’s Kartavya Path to the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This year’s choice of Srinagar as the main venue adds another significant location to this list, underlining the government’s focus on Jammu and Kashmir.
