PM Modi, Amit Shah pay tribute to Sivakumara Swamigalu on his jayanti

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid heartfelt tributes to Sivakumara Swamigalu on the occasion of his birth anniversary, remembering him as an embodiment of compassion, humility, and selfless service to humanity.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “On the occasion of his Jayanti, paying tributes to His Holiness Dr. Sree Sree Sree Sivakumara Swamigalu. He stands in collective memory as an embodiment of compassion, humility and unwavering service to humanity. Through a lifetime dedicated to uplifting others, he demonstrated that true greatness lies in serving others.”

“His remarkable contributions across education, social welfare and spirituality have left an enduring imprint on society. Even today, his life continues to guide and inspire countless individuals to walk the path of selflessness and service,” the Prime Minister added.

PM Modi also shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam emphasizing altruism and service, underlining the saint’s philosophy of living for the welfare of others.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah described Swamigalu as a revered saint who dedicated his life to compassion and education. He said the legacy of the Siddaganga Mutt remains an enduring inspiration for selfless service.

Born on April 1, 1907, in Karnataka, Sivakumara Swamigalu, often revered as “Nadedavaru Devaru” (Walking God), devoted over a century of his life to uplifting the underprivileged. As the head of the Siddaganga Mutt for nearly 76 years, he played a transformative role in expanding access to education, especially for rural and economically weaker sections.

Under his leadership, thousands of educational institutions were established, offering both traditional and modern education to students across the state. His efforts ensured that countless children received free food, shelter, and education.

Swamigalu, who passed away in 2019 at the age of 111, was widely respected for his simplicity, discipline, and humanitarian work. In recognition of his immense contributions, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan and Karnataka Ratna.
