PM Modi, Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker hold bilateral talks at Hyderabad House

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker at Hyderabad House on Thursday, focusing on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, green technology and other key sectors.

The meeting marked a significant milestone during Stocker’s first official visit to India and his maiden trip to Asia since assuming office in 2025.

Earlier today, the Austrian Chancellor paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, where he laid a wreath and reflected on Gandhi’s enduring message of peace, non-violence and global harmony.

Stocker arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday, accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising senior ministers, government officials and business leaders, underscoring the strong economic focus of the visit.

Ahead of the bilateral meeting, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar called on the Austrian Chancellor and expressed confidence that the visit would open new avenues for cooperation across multiple domains.

Stocker has highlighted India’s rapid economic growth, noting its significant investments in infrastructure and technology. He described India as the European Union’s most important trading partner in South Asia and emphasised Austria’s interest in expanding its presence in the Indian market through deeper partnerships and improved market access.

The visit comes amid growing economic engagement between the two countries and builds on the momentum generated by PM Modi’s visit to Austria in 2024. India and Austria share long-standing and friendly relations rooted in shared democratic values.
