Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, emphasized the need to revive the ancient spirit of Nalanda University, aiming to reestablish India as a global center for higher learning and research.
Highlighting the significance of education under India’s new education policy, PM Modi expressed his vision to develop institutions that attract students from around the world, thereby transforming India into an international hub for education.
“We have recently revived Nalanda University in Bihar, and it is now operational again,” said the Prime Minister. “However, we must reignite that centuries-old Nalanda spirit and work with unwavering faith in it to infuse new life into the global traditions of knowledge.”
PM Modi also addressed the need for an education system that prevents Indian youth from seeking education abroad, which often burdens middle-class families with substantial expenses. “We aim to create such institutions within India that will attract students from other countries,” he added.
The Prime Minister further urged the nation to strive toward making India a developed nation by 2047. Drawing inspiration from the courage and dedication of 40 crore Indians who fought for independence, he emphasized that the current population of 140 crore Indians could achieve wonders with a unified pledge to build a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.
“Now is the time to live for Viksit Bharat 2047, and we Indians are determined to become Atmanirbhar in every field,” he said. “Our collective resolve can transform India into a developed nation by 2047.”
PM Modi also recalled his earlier visit in June to inaugurate the new campus of Nalanda University in Rajgir, where he described the revival of Nalanda as the beginning of India’s “Golden Age.” He emphasized that the new campus would showcase India’s capabilities to the world.
This year marks the 11th time PM Modi has addressed the nation from the Red Fort on Independence Day, joining Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi in achieving this milestone.
