PM Modi chairs 46th PRAGATI meeting, reviews projects worth ₹90,000 crore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired the 46th edition of PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation), a multi-modal ICT-based platform for coordinated governance involving the centre and states.

During the session, the Prime Minister reviewed eight critical infrastructure projects valued at over ₹90,000 crore. The reviewed projects included three major road projects, two from the railways sector, and two related to ports, shipping, and waterways. These initiatives span multiple states and Union Territories and are aimed at accelerating the country’s infrastructure development.

A key focus of the meeting was the review of grievance redressal mechanisms under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY). The Prime Minister directed all ministries and departments to ensure that beneficiary identification is carried out strictly through biometrics-based Aadhaar authentication or verification. He also suggested integrating complementary schemes related to childcare, health, hygiene, and sanitation to improve the overall well-being of mothers and newborns.

Urban planning was another major point of discussion. While reviewing a project related to the development of a Ring Road, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that such infrastructure must be seamlessly integrated into the broader urban development strategy. He underlined the need to align the Ring Road’s design with the city’s projected growth over the next 25–30 years, and encouraged the study of sustainable urban planning models. He also proposed exploring the integration of a circular rail network as a sustainable public transport alternative.

During the review of the Jal Marg Vikas Project, the Prime Minister advocated for building strong community connections along inland waterway stretches to support cruise tourism. He highlighted the potential for boosting local economies by promoting regional crafts and entrepreneurship through initiatives like ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP). PM Modi reiterated that inland waterways should act as both logistical channels and tourism hubs, helping generate employment and enhance regional development.

The PM also stressed the importance of integrated planning tools such as PM Gati Shakti for enhancing synergy across sectors. He instructed all departments to keep their databases updated, emphasizing that accurate and timely data is essential for informed policy-making and efficient implementation.

Since its launch, 370 projects worth nearly ₹20 lakh crore have been reviewed under the PRAGATI initiative.
