Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed grief over the death of Mangal Munda, the great-grandson of tribal leader Birsa Munda, who passed away on November 28 at a hospital in Ranchi.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of Mangal Munda Ji, a descendant of Bhagwan Birsa Munda Ji. His demise is an irreparable loss for his family as well as the tribal society of Jharkhand. May God give strength to his family in this hour of grief. Om Shanti!”

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren also extended his condolences, describing Munda’s demise as a significant loss for the tribal community. He wrote on X, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the demise of Shri Mangal Munda Ji, a descendant of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, who was undergoing treatment at RIMS. May Marang Buru grant peace to the departed soul and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this difficult time of grief.”

Mangal Munda had been receiving treatment at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi following a road accident on November 25. Dr. Rajiv Ranjan from RIMS revealed that Munda had sustained severe head and brain injuries, necessitating an operation on November 26. Despite being placed on ventilator support, Munda succumbed to his injuries on Thursday night.

“Our team of doctors worked tirelessly on his treatment, but unfortunately, he passed away. A post-mortem investigation will also be conducted,” Dr. Ranjan said.
