PM Modi congratulates Donald Trump on “historic victory” in US presidential election

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated Donald Trump after the Republican candidate appeared poised for a decisive victory in 2024 U.S. presidential election.

As per the latest projections by Fox News, Trump has won 277 electoral votes, surpassing the 270 threshold needed to claim the presidency. He managed to flip key battleground states, including Pennsylvania and Georgia, and continues to lead in Michigan.

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Heartiest congratulations my friend @realDonaldTrump on your historic election victory.”

PM Modi expressed confidence in further strengthening Indo-US relations during Trump’s second term. He said, “As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership. Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability and prosperity.”

The two leaders share a strong bond, having participated in several major events together, including the ‘Howdy Modi!’ event in the U.S. in 2019, when Trump was president, and the ‘Namaste Trump’ event in India in 2020.

This marks the second instance in history, and the first in over 100 years, of a president serving two non-consecutive terms in the White House.

In a victory speech in Florida, Trump, accompanied by his running mate JD Vance and family members, described his projected win as the “greatest political movement of all time” and vowed to continue working toward making “America great again.”
