Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to the Indian Sepak Takraw team for their outstanding performance at the Sepak Takraw World Cup 2025, where they secured seven medals, including a historic gold in the Men’s Regu event—India’s first-ever top finish in the sport.
Hailing it as a “spectacular performance,” PM Modi emphasized that the achievement signifies a “promising future” for India on the global Sepak Takraw stage.
In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Congratulations to our contingent for displaying phenomenal sporting excellence at the Sepak Takraw World Cup 2025! The contingent brings home 7 medals. The Men’s Regu team created history by bringing home India’s first Gold. This spectacular performance indicates a promising future for India in the global Sepak Takraw arena.”
Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Youth Affairs, and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya also lauded Team India’s historic medal haul, commending the Men’s Regu team for securing the nation’s maiden gold medal in the event.
Taking to X, Mandaviya expressed his appreciation, stating, “Heartiest congratulations to Team India for winning 7 medals at the Sepak Takraw World Cup 2025. The Indian Men’s Regu team was officially crowned World Champions on Tuesday after clinching the gold medal at the 2025 Sepak Takraw World Cup, held in Patna, Bihar. The home team delivered a thrilling performance, overcoming a strong Japanese side 2-1 in the final.
The championship clash began on a challenging note for India, as they lost the first game 11-15. However, buoyed by the energetic home crowd, they mounted a remarkable comeback, taking the second game 15-11, pushing the match into a decisive third set.
The final set saw an intense battle, with both teams exchanging points in a nerve-wracking contest. Ultimately, India held their nerve, sealing a 17-14 victory to claim the prestigious gold medal.
