PM Modi congratulates Yumnam Khemchand Singh on being sworn in as Manipur CM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated Yumnam Khemchand Singh on being sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Manipur.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Congratulations to Shri Yumnam Khemchand Singh Ji on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Manipur. I would like to congratulate Smt. Nemcha Kipgen Ji and Shri Losii Dikho Ji on taking oath as the Deputy Chief Ministers of the state and Shri Konthoujam Govindas Singh Ji as well as Shri Khuraijam Loken Singh Ji on being sworn in as Ministers in the Manipur Government.”

“I’m confident they will work diligently towards furthering development and prosperity for my sisters and brothers of Manipur,” added PM Modi.

Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla administered the oath of office and secrecy to the Chief Minister, two Deputy Chief Ministers and other ministers at a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan on Wednesday. The swearing-in followed the revocation of President’s Rule in Manipur earlier in the day, paving the way for the formation of a new BJP-led NDA government in the state.

Soon after taking oath, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said he would make every effort to live up to the trust placed in him by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President Nitin Nabin.

Two Deputy Chief Ministers – Nemcha Kipgen, a BJP leader from the Kuki tribal community, and Loishi Dikho of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), who belongs to the Naga community – were inducted into the cabinet, reflecting the government’s emphasis on inclusiveness. Kipgen is the lone woman minister in the new council, while Dikho is a senior Naga leader and a three-time MLA from the Mao Assembly constituency in Senapati district.

The new ministry currently includes members from the BJP, NPF and the National People’s Party (NPP). The cabinet is expected to be expanded at a later stage, as several ministerial berths remain vacant.
