PM Modi extends greetings on BSF Raising Day; commends force’s resolve and professionalism

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended greetings to Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on the force’s 61st Raising Day, praising their commitment and professionalism in protecting India’s borders.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “On BSF Raising Day, my greetings to all their personnel. BSF symbolises India’s unwavering resolve and utmost professionalism. Their sense of duty is exemplary. They serve in some of the most challenging terrains. Alongside their valour, their humanitarian spirit is also exceptional. My best wishes to the force in their pursuit of serving and protecting our nation.”

BSF Raising Day is observed every year on December 1 to mark the establishment of the force in 1965.

Earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in a post on X, “Warm greetings to BSF personnel and their families on their Raising Day. A force synonymous with fiery patriotism, the BSF has always upheld the honor of the nation and shielded the well-being of the citizens with Himalayan resolve and steely valor. The undying flame of patriotism they have kept alight with supreme sacrifice will continue to show the path to generations of Indians. Salutations to the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.”

Several political leaders conveyed their greetings as well.

Lok Sabha MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra thanked BSF personnel for their service, saying, “Warm greetings to our brave BSF personnel on BSF Raising Day. Thank you for protecting our country. We salute your courage and service.”

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi also expressed his gratitude to the BSF for guarding India’s borders and citizens.

The BSF was established in 1965 following attacks by Pakistan on Sardar Post, Chhar Bet, and Beria Bet in the Kutch region. Before its formation, border security was handled by State Armed Police battalions. The Government of India created the BSF on the recommendation of a Committee of Secretaries to provide a dedicated force for border protection.
