PM Modi extends greetings on holy month of Ramzan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended warm greetings to the people of India and the global community on the commencement of the holy month of Ramzan

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Ramzan Mubarak! May this auspicious month further the spirit of togetherness in our society. May there be peace and prosperity everywhere.”

The crescent moon marking the beginning of Ramadan has been sighted, and the first roza will be observed today. Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali, Qazi-e-Shahr and President of the Markazi Chand Committee, Farangi Mahal, Lucknow, announced that the moon was sighted in different parts of the country, confirming the start of the holy month.

Speaking in Lucknow, he conveyed greetings to the Muslim community and said the first fast would be observed on Wednesday, February 19, 2026. He also appealed to worshippers to offer namaz within mosque premises and avoid praying on streets.

Ramadan is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community service. During this period, devotees fast from dawn to sunset and engage in increased spiritual practices, including special nightly prayers, acts of charity and community gatherings.
