Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended greetings to the people on the fifth day of Shardiya Navratri, dedicated to Goddess Skandamata, and wished that her blessings bring love, harmony and happiness to every family.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said the fifth day of Navratri is dedicated to the worship of Maa Skandamata, the fifth form of Goddess Durga. He expressed his heartfelt wish that the blessings of the goddess, who symbolises maternal affection and tenderness, would fill every family with love and harmony.

The Prime Minister also shared a devotional bhajan by Vijay Durga on the occasion. In another message, he offered salutations to the goddess, invoking her divine power.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also extended greetings on the occasion, paying obeisance to Maa Skandamata and describing her as the embodiment of love, affection and compassion. He expressed hope that her blessings would bring happiness, peace and prosperity to the world.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also offered prayers to the goddess and sought her blessings for auspiciousness, strength and joy in people’s lives. He wished that love and happiness would continue to prevail in families through her grace.

Navratri, meaning ‘nine nights’ in Sanskrit, is a major Hindu festival dedicated to Goddess Durga and her nine forms, collectively known as Navdurga. The festival is observed across the country with prayers, rituals and devotional offerings at temples and homes.

Maa Skandamata is revered as a symbol of motherhood, compassion and spiritual guidance. She is traditionally depicted seated on a lion, with her son Kartikeya on her lap and lotus flowers in her hands.

On the fifth day of Navratri, devotees offer prayers and seek the goddess’s blessings for protection, prosperity and well-being.
